Nationwide Children's Hospital "Hero Day"

A group of volunteers from Nationwide recently partnered with Nationwide Children’s Hospital for a very special project we called “Hero Day.” Eleven of the hospital’s Patient Champions were chosen to dress as their hero.

A fundraiser was held to raise money for costumes, hair, makeup, and more. The kids experience the VIP treatment as they were transformed into princesses, athletes and superheroes. Nationwide’s creative team then added some “Hollywood magic” to the photos, turning each one into a poster for the kids to keep as a memento of this special day.

Letting everyday heroes dress the part.

A group of volunteers partnered with Nationwide Children’s Hospital for a very special project we called “Hero Day.” Eleven of the hospital’s patients were transformed and photographed as their favorite inspirational hero — ranging from super heroes to princesses and athletes. The creative team then added in some “Hollywood magic” to the photos, turning each one into a printed, framed poster for the kids to keep.

The photo shoot:

Kids experienced the full VIP treatment as they were transformed into their hero. The two-day photo shoot was incredibly inspiring. We learned more about each kid and the battles they fought. More importantly, we got to help take their minds off of things by giving them an afternoon full of fun.

The extra mile:

When I saw that eight-year-old Brayden chose to dress as a local celebrity, Columbus Blue Jackets’ player Nick Foligno, I helped coordinate a meet-and-greet. Brayden and his family were invited to a Blue Jackets practice where he got to meet Nick and the rest of the team.

The results:

The Hospital hosted a “Gallery Hop” for the Hero Day kids. The posters were displayed throughout their main lobby, where friends and families were invited to stop by. This was the kid’s first time seeing their posters, so it was exciting to watch their reactions.
